You will make sure that your kitten is safe at home while you are away and take care of the initial vaccinations.

Before making the decision to bring a cat home

Here is some basic information you need to know to raise them in a healthy way.

 1- Sleep time

Cat does not need a separate place, but its sleeping place can be an empty closet or a corner in your bedroom. It is important that it is equipped with warm bedding such as a blanket or fleece cover where they can get the necessary amount of sleep and rest.

 2- Sandbox

Domestic cats need to use a litter box as a toilet. it should be clean everyday to avoid unpleasant odors. You may find at stores specific products formulated to control unpleasant odour. Training them to use the sandbox can be every time after meals or right after woke-up.

Make sure you place the litter box in a wide, quiet area at a distance from living area. Eventually, let your cat know where it is and make sure they feel comfortable using it.

 3- Medical examination

All new born and newly obtained cats should undergo a medical examination by the veterinarian to ensure that they are free from any of the common diseases. Appointments and necessary vaccinations should all be set according to their age. The veterinarian as well can propose the best solution to the sterilisation process at the age of eight weeks at least.

 4- nutrition

Make sure to choose foods that are rich in necessary nutrients for growth and at the same time avoid them overeating, which can lead to obesity and other serious health issues. You should not forget to place a water bowl and a food bowl next to their sleep area and away from the sand box to prevent the transmission of any infection. You may need to consult your veterinarian before giving them homemade food, as it may not contain the necessary ingredients or may be harmful to their health.

 5- Cleanness

It is important to pay attention to their hygiene in order to avoid the transmission of bacteria and to prevent common diseases. They should get 2 baths a week with warm water while well washing their fur by a specific cleanser designed for that. You should prevent water from entering their ears, as it may cause an instant death!

Combing cat’s hair is a necessary daily routine. You can use a cat brush for that and make sure you avoid them eating their hair as it is harmful to their digestive system.

 6- Playing

Playing with your kitten is a great bonding experience. Cats love to play and invent their own games. Before buying expensive toys, try things around the house such as paper bags and boxes. You may need to know that many cats prefer to scratch stuff around them. So, to protect your furniture from some damages, you may give them a scratching post or some pieces of rubber.
